The Isle of Salina and the Bay of Pollara
Day 4
On Tuesday morning we set off early for the Island of Salina, the largest island of the archipelago, with its extraordinary and incredible diversity of landscapes.
Salina is the most fertile of the Aeolian islands, and rich in water: they cultivate high quality grapes that are the source of “Malvasia delle Lipari”, a sweet wine, and capers that are exported all over the world.
We need to sail for 25 miles and we will have a step-off in La Nave, one of the most enchanting port of call of Panarea, to have a swim and then we leave for Salina.
Waiting to welcome us is the Bay of Pollara (famous for being the setting for the film “Il Postino” that starred Massimo Troisi), remarkable for its shape of an amphiteatre, and part of a submerged rocky crater that has been shaped by the natural elements.
At sunset, after a little less than half an hours sailing, we reach Santa Marina to drop anchor in the harbor and come ashore to visit the village that is colored by caper flowers and the reddish hues of a sun that never seems to set.
